Green thumbs through technology: The world of microcontrollers for beginners!

An exciting workshop on microcontrollers took place yesterday at the Institute of Information Processing Technology (ITIV). The event was fully booked early and attracted numerous technology enthusiasts.
Introduction to the world of microcontrollers
The workshop began with an introduction to the world of microcontrollers. The participants learned that these small "brains" are found in almost all technical devices - from smartphones and fitness trackers to televisions.
Programming and designing yourself
In the practical part of the workshop, the participants became developers themselves. They programmed their own microcontroller to remind them to water their plants. With great dedication, they designed digital circuits, laid wires and wrote the code to display the well-being of their plants with LEDs. Watering could even be triggered at the touch of a button. The participants were allowed to take the circuits they had built and programmed home with them and develop them further.
They were advised to visit the open source platform to further explore the world of electronic prototypes for their project with tutorials and documentation.
Positive feedback and enthusiasm
The feedback from the participants was consistently positive. Many found the day extremely interesting and realized that computer science is not that difficult and can even be fun. Some participants showed interest in learning more about the subject and are considering studying in this field.
Thanks to the organizers
Special thanks go to the doctoral students at ITIV who organized the workshop: Ann-Therese Nägele, Annina Gutermann, Marc Neu (in the cover photo from left to right) and Christian Maximilian Karle. Their commitment and expertise contributed significantly to the success of the event, which was an inspiring first step for many participants to discover the world of technology and computer science and perhaps even change the world as future female engineers.
Girls' Day - what is it?
"Girls' Day - Girls' Future Day" is a nationwide career orientation day for girls* from the 5th grade onwards. Girls' Day gives schoolgirls the opportunity to gain an insight into professions that are rarely chosen by women - fields in the natural and technical sciences.
