KATHES workshop at KIT: focus on system integration and AI

Karlsruhe, February 20, 2024 - The KATHES workshop "System & AI Integration in Health, Space, Automotive & Energy" attracted around 25 participants to the Institute of Information Processing Technology (ITIV) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on February 20.
Organized by Prof. Jürgen Becker (KIT) and Prof. Georgios Keramidas (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, AUTh), the event offered a platform for the exchange and networking of German and Greek experts from science and research.
Diverse topics and exciting presentations
The workshop focused on the topics of system integration and artificial intelligence (AI) in the application areas of industry, energy and health. 16 presentations, including six from KIT's Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (ETIT) and one from KIT's Department of Computer Science, highlighted a broad spectrum of current research topics.
In the field of energy, smart grids and energy systems were discussed, while in the field of AI and industry, applications such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), predictive maintenance, cyber-physical systems, non-linear signal processing, hardware-software codesign and chip integration with AI were presented.
The health area included patient-centered approaches and AI-supported therapies, while the teaching area presented study models such as biomedical engineering and embedded systems in computer science. Environment and space were represented with topics such as earth observation, AI-supported air quality measurement, cubesats and spaceborne radar.
Productive atmosphere and lively exchange
The participants showed great interest in the various program items and actively participated in the discussions. Despite the tight schedule and the challenge that half of the participants and presenters were connected remotely, the event ran smoothly.
Conclusion: positive feedback and promising collaborations
The KATHES workshop was a complete success and offered the institutes of the ETIT faculty in particular a valuable opportunity to network in the field of AI and system integration - core competencies that also characterize ITIV. The event helped to strengthen the cooperation between Greek and German scientific institutions and to provide new impulses for research in the fields of system integration and AI.
