MANNHEIM status and networking meeting: A look into the future of automobility
In December, the MANNHEIM status and networking meeting took place at the Maritim Airport Hotel Hannover as part of the BMBF funding measure "Electronics and software development methods for the digitalization of automobility (MANNHEIM)".
The event provided a platform for exchanging ideas about the latest technical advances and challenges in the automotive industry.
A day full of insights and discussions
After a welcome and opening by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the current research status of the following projects was presented:
- AutoDevSafeOps
- AUTOtech.agil
- FlexKI
- CeCaS
- EMDRIVE
- KI4BoardNet
- MEMTONOMY
The presentations offered a deep insight into the innovative developments and the challenges that the projects have to face.
Discussion rounds on key topics
A highlight of the event was the panel discussion on "Cross-project software development - open source strategy and standardization", moderated by Raphael van Kempen from RWTH Aachen University. Here, the opportunities and challenges of the open source strategy and standardization in software development were intensively discussed.
In the afternoon, a further panel discussion was held on "Current challenges in hardware for autonomous driving - open approaches as an opportunity for Europe". This panel was chaired by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Becker from the Institute of Information Technology (ITIV / Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT) gave a keynote speech and offered valuable insights into future developments and opportunities in the field of autonomous vehicle technology.
Three challenges were focused on: increasing computing requirements in cars for modern algorithms for autonomous driving (level 4/5), high investment costs for chip design and production as well as multi-chip integration/chiplets to increase yields for large chip areas.
Concluding thoughts
At the end of the event, the participants took the opportunity to reflect on the insights gained and to network further.
The MANNHEIM status and networking meeting impressively demonstrated the importance of exchange and cooperation in the automotive industry in order to drive forward digitalization and the development of new technologies.
