Design an IoT sensor for transformer condition monitoring

Strommast mit Smart City Technologie in einer geschäftigen Stadtumgebung.
Context

Rapid urbanization in sub-Saharan Africa is transforming cities at an unprecedented rate, bringing with it both opportunities and significant challenges. Many cities are struggling to expand their infrastructure fast enough to meet the growing demand. This includes roads, public transportation, water supply and sanitation systems. Managing this rapid urban growth is a huge task and new ways of urban planning need to be developed to create a liveable environment for the people of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

ITIV is leading a project that brings together stakeholders from academia, government, infrastructure and urban planning to develop novel ideas for the city of the future. The main problem is the lack of data on the current influx of people into urban centers. An important indicator is the development of electricity consumption. Your task is to extend the current sensor developed in the previous project to monitor the entire Transformer.

Tasks

Analyze the current sensor design of the smart e-meter project and identify necessary modifications for the extended application area Develop an IoT sensor architecture with current and voltage sensors to monitor energy consumption Build a first prototype and test the accuracy and reliability of the designed sensor

  • Analyze the existing current sensor.
  • Design a new design
  • Manufacture and test a prototype

Prerequisites
  • Motivation and interest in solving technical problems independently
