Test environment for networked medical devices in the operating room

OPSaal

Context

Service-oriented device connectivity (SDC) is a new standard for the realization of manufacturer-independent interoperability between medical devices in hospitals and especially in the operating theatre. The protocol enables the exchange of metrics that describe the current system status of the medical device, the provision of external remote control operations and the distribution of alarms to other devices.

In the context of SDC, a device that assumes the role of a service provider acts as a source for the provision of metrics and processes received external control commands. On the other hand, a service consumer initiates the external control operations and reads the metrics provided. A reference implementation of a service consumer is essential for validating the service provider application, for visualizing and monitoring metric changes and for triggering remote control operations.

Objectives

  • Overview and comparison of different SDC test approaches and tools
  • Test concept and tool evaluation strategy for an SDC interface of service providers: Consideration of test automation options, definition of requirements for the SDC consumer test tool
  • Implementation of e.g. a command line or GUI tool for an SDC service consumer, integration of Vector CANoe etc.
  • Evaluation of the selected test approach on an operating table SDC provider product

Prerequisites

  • Motivation and creative thinking
  • Knowledge of C++
  • Basic knowledge of (embedded) Linux

The work will be carried out at Getinge AB in Rastatt and therefore has a strong practical relevance.
