Summary of the dissertation
As part of Jens Juhl's doctorate, a technical assistance system was developed to relieve nursing staff in their day-to-day work. The preparation of medication in particular is a process that has to be carried out on a daily basis in order to be able to constantly supply all those in need of care with individual medication. This process is usually carried out under time pressure and without sufficient error control. Errors can have serious consequences for the patient's health.
An intelligent augmented reality (AR)-based support system can speed up the preparation of medication, even for large numbers of patients in need, and significantly reduce the number of errors. A system consisting of a camera and projector is used, which continuously searches for pill boxes in the field of vision on the table using AI methods and then fully automatically recognizes all the medication that has been prepared. These are projected onto the table together with the individual patient's digital medication plan and deviations are reported to the nurse in real time.
