Monitoring system for polar bears installed at Karlsruhe Zoological Garden
ITIV supports the monitoring of polar bear cub Mika and mother Nuka with innovative camera technology.

Shortly before the public was allowed to visit Mika at the zoological garden in Karlsruhe, the ITIV provided support in monitoring the little polar bear. With a camera system consisting of three cameras and a recorder, the polar bear cub and mother Nuka are now recorded around the clock in the outdoor area.
Behavioral patterns are obtained from this image data. These in turn provide information on the behavior of polar bears in the first months of their lives. Student work will deal specifically with anomaly detection and machine learning.
