Successful completion of the “ÖV-LeitmotiF-KI” project

A milestone for local public transport
Leitmotif

The "ÖV-LeitmotiF-KI" research project was successfully completed on September 30, 2024. The central objective was the successful integration of automated vehicles into public transport. A core topic was the interoperability between the systems of different control center providers (IVU and Init). To this end, AI-based systems were developed to support vehicles that require automated solutions.

The focus of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was on the development of a standardized reference model of actors and interfaces to facilitate the integration of automated vehicles into public transport. This development is an important step towards integrating automated vehicles into existing transportation systems.

The testing of the system took place in week 30 on the grounds of the KIT Campus East in the context of the Baden-Württemberg autonomous driving test field and showed promising results.

The research results, in which Prof. Eric Sax's team was involved together with the partners VDV, IVU, Init, FZI, ESE and TU Ilmenau, mark significant progress in the development and integration of AI and automated systems in public transport and lay the foundation for future innovations in this area.
